Engagement Ring Shopping 101
1. Know What Shape You’re Shopping For
This tip is essential because your significant other will most likely be unsatisfied with a ring shape that she finds unflattering. Previous conversations will help you figure this out. Still, it’s also important to know the difference between each shape to get her the ring she desires. Knowing the difference will also help you figure out your budget and what you can afford. Round cuts are the most expensive, whereas pear and marquise cuts are less expensive.
2. Have a Carat Size in Mind
Diamonds are priced by weight. The more carats the diamond weighs, the more expensive the ring will be. A good rule of thumb is to buy a diamond that weighs slightly less than the most common weights (.50,1,1.5, etc.) if you want to save money yet still buy a quality ring.
3. Always Shop Certified
An engagement ring is an expensive investment, so you must shop wisely, or you will waste tons of money on a low-quality diamond ring. When you finally find the perfect ring, be certain to buy a certified diamond from an accredited diamond lab, such as the American Gem Society for the Gemological Institute of America.
